200 THE TREE IN THE WOOD

The present version was sung in 1934 by Mr. Ben Bower, Beldmg, wh< learned the song as a child m Tompkins County, New York, about 1870. Thi song is sung at the Bower family reunions, and Mrs. Bower states that "it 1 sung so fast that anyone who isn't a Bower can't keep up."
i Out in the woods there was a little tree, The prettiest little tree that you ever did see, The tree in the woods, the woods in the ground, And the green grass grew all around, all around, And the green grass grew all around.
